In this module, you will gain insight into how to assess small group assignments with rubrics, how to assess scaffolded group performance leading up to the completion of a paper, presentation, or final product, and how to assess individual contributions to group work throughout the progress of the group. Regular process checks can be built into the design of the assignment and help make group progress more transparent to them and you. Examples will be provided for each.
Most group grading efforts are unfair and try to use a “group grade,” despite its unfairness, to try to hold everyone accountable. You will have better options and strategies for maintaining steady engagement in group work. Finally, we’ll explore examples of student group members evaluating group members and how to leverage this option for student success in group learning.
