Planning for teaching improvement may be on our radar screen but difficult to fit into our schedules. We tweak our courses but with whom can we share our concerns and efforts to improve? Formal Peer Review can be one-sided and evaluative rather than provide support or encourage a growth mindset. However, we know that making even small improvements to our courses can improve student learning and success.
What if we could engage in a mutually supportive and productive exchange of specific “tweaks” to our courses and teaching that would result in concrete improvement? What if a program was set up that allowed us to partner in peer review for our own professional development – for your eyes only?
Through this new CETL program, Partners in Peer-review (PiP), we will organize the starting point launch for you to meet partners and provide a flexible template and process for you to customize according to your needs.
PiP is a reciprocal, productive process that will support you in making course changes to meet your own goals and improve student learning. Participants will select a specific topic from broad categories for summer/fall courses at the first meeting.
Even better, you can find partners outside of your program or use this process to start a PiP within your program! All materials are available for you to use and modify as needed.
The CETL PiP is based on the Department of Kinesiology’s successful new Peer Review program and has features rarely seen in Peer Review programs. Join us June 19, 2-3 p.m. CETL’s ENG B73! Bring your summer/fall schedule and a course syllabus!
