This interactive session on High Impact Practices (HIPs) will funnel participant perspectives, panelists’ experiences, and potential strategies through the interactive format of a Fishbowl Discussion. Join us Friday, February 28th, 1-3:30 in the Student Union Fireside Lounge (W140).
A facilitator will pose key questions to an inner “fishbowl” of participants who will offer their perspectives and additional questions back and forth to one another. What makes HIPs work? Who benefits from HIPs? What is the “impact” sought and how could we assess their impact on growth and learning? How can HIPs be scaled up? How can quality be embedded? What role do students play in ensuring they experience HIPs during their academic career? For a description of High Impact Practices: https://www.aacu.org/sites/default/files/files/LEAP/HIP_tables.pdf
The surrounding circle of all who attend will observe the evolving discussion. As new ideas and questions are unpacked, participants can opt to seek a seat in the discussion by replacing a participant seated in the fishbowl. Ideas, insights, and questions will be recorded to ensure further consideration beyond this event.
This well-known discussion strategy is noted for cultivating close listening, in depth exploration of multiple perspectives, heightening understanding and an evolving diversity of ideas (https://www.unicef.org/knowledge-exchange/files/Fishbowl_production.pdf).
Registration is closed for this workshop.
