Your course Grading Scheme does much more than allots points, value, or weight to each graded learning activity in your course! Your Grading Scheme sends students a number of messages and should support the kind of learning you expect and communicate how students can be successful in your course. This workshop will help you to raise the level of intentionality, congruency, and transparency throughout all components of your course.
The most common challenges in courses – getting students to prepare for class, show up to class, engage, and make sense of and think in class, can be supported with a well-designed course grading scheme. Unfortunately, a “high stakes” grading scheme makes our job harder and can lead students to minimize the value of attending class, being attentive, and preparing for class. Learn new options to choose from in order to build a grading scheme that is consistent with your learning expectations and leads students to greater self-responsibility and accountability.
