Active Learning flourishes when it is embedded throughout the features of your course. Traditional or lecture-based course design can embed small steps towards active learning or you can design significant active learning activities throughout your course. Either way, some of your course features can end up creating impediments for effectively using active learning.
To avoid this, this session will highlight your course grading scheme and its pivotal role in supporting expectations of active learning. All types of courses and formats need to modify their grading schemes to ensure individual accountability and consistent preparation for class, in-class or online presences, and engagement in the class activities.
You will be provided with multiple examples of active learning grading schemes and a template to start your own. A grading scheme rubric will be provided to further help you in your grading scheme designs.
Bring or have access to an existing course syllabus and we’ll look at strategies to align your course with active learning.
