Teaching Naked: How Moving Technology Our of Your Classroom Will Improve Student Learning is not a book about throwing out the technology with the power cord. Instead, the 2014 Frederic W. Ness Book Award explores how “naked” pedagogy is an attempt to use technology in a new way to maximize deep learning. Bowen makes transparent the use of technology to support and enhance best practices in pedagogy by motivating students to interact with content and offering more control over their learning. He argues, “…the greatest value of a physical university will continue to be is provision of face-to-face (naked) interaction between faculty and students.” With emphasis on the use of technology outside of class for preparation and careful sequencing of learning experiences, he challenges us to consider how to design “more time for the pedagogy of critical thinking.”
